Background on Southbridge Public Schools:

Southbridge Public Schools serve approximately 2,200 students in six schools. The district is presently undergoing extensive turnaround at all levels, with the assistance of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. This creates unique opportunities for teachers and students. One example is a recently announced, long-term partnership with the University of Connecticut to develop Southbridge Schools to be a national demonstration site for successful implementation of PBIS strategies. Additionally, our district is the recipient of a number of significant grants that are allowing us to creatively redesign Secondary School, curriculum enhancements, improved culture and climate and after-school opportunities for students. The Educator Development Specialist will work under the direction of the Director of Elementary Education and collaborate with the Elementary Curriculum Specialist to design, deliver, and assess the impact of targeted professional development programming for K-5 elementary teachers.

 

The following responsibilities apply to this school year position:

  • Collaborate regularly with the Director of Elementary Education and other department colleagues to assess teacher performance in classroom management and effective instructional practices.  Analyze various sources of teacher performance data to determine professional development needs.
  • Develop comprehensive, responsive professional development programming to address determined areas of need for educator development.
  • Create look-for documents to support building leadership’s ability to monitor effective implementation of targeted effective instructional practices.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Elementary Education and building leadership, establish a calendar of professional development to support educators at all levels of experience.
  • Provide various levels of teacher coaching, both in small groups and in 1:1 format.
  • Regularly monitor data to determine efficacy of professional development programming and make adjustments, as needed.

 

Qualifications:

        The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and characteristics:

  • Bachelor’s degree (required); Master’s degree (preferred)
  • MA DESE Elementary Education (1-6) and/or Early Childhood Education (PK-3) license(required); MA DESE Principal/Assistant Principal License (1-6) (preferred)
  • Minimum of 10 years of teaching experience with a track record of success improving the academic achievement of disadvantaged students
  • Experience in providing professional development, coaching and feedback to teachers.
  • Understanding of adult learning theory and the ability to design training in alignment with core principles.
  • Belief in the necessity of high behavior expectations and consistency in upholding those expectations
  • Vision for instructional excellence that requires deep thinking and engagement from all students
