 Background on Southbridge Public Schools:

Southbridge Public Schools serve approximately 2,200 students in six schools. The district is presently undergoing extensive turnaround at all levels, with the assistance of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. This creates unique opportunities for teachers and students. One example is a long-term partnership with the University of Connecticut to develop Southbridge Schools to be a national demonstration site for successful implementation of PBIS strategies. Additionally, the district is the recipient of a number of significant grants that allow Secondary School redesign, curriculum enhancements, and improved culture and climate and afterschool opportunities for students. JOB GOAL: 

To work with students to ensure that all class/club activities are completed in a timely and thorough manner. The ability to organize and supervise

 

Reports to: Athletic Director

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities (duties and responsibilities listed may include, but are not limited to the following):

  • Accountable for the entire program, and will oversee all aspects of the program, including, but not limited to, the safety and inventory of athletic equipment.
  • Communicate with the Athletic Director concerning any incidents which come up in regards to student athletes or parental concerns.
  • Has had prior coaching experience in a college, high school, or professional setting.
  • Promote academics before athletics by monitoring academic performance and enforcing eligibility.
  • Allow all student athletes the opportunity to compete in the sport while promoting sportsmanship.
  • Build a positive relationship with the community to promote the sport.
  • Demonstrate all skills, drills and fundamentals of the sport.
  • Manage and take inventory of all equipment.
  • Be present at all weekend activities.
  • Supervise athletes before practices, during/after practices and during activities/events.
  • Attend coaching meetings as assigned.
  • Evaluate the progress of the student athletes.
  • Assist with fundraising along with promoting community support and awareness.
  • Set scrimmages, game schedules, and practice schedules for the program. 
  • Perform all other duties that are assigned by the Athletic Director and/or Varsity Coach

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have experience working with high school students and adults.
